Nipple Inversion Surgery Dublin

Inverted Nipple

Inverted Nipple The Clinic Sandymount Green, Dublin 4

An inverted nipple is a condition where the nipple instead of pointing outward is retracted into the breast. In some cases, the nipple can be temporarily protruded if stimulated, but in others the inversion remains regardless of stimulus.

Inverted nipple is clinically classified into three groups:

  1. Grade I nipple can be easily pulled out manually and maintains its projection quite well without traction.
  1. Grade II nipple is also popped out by palpation but not as easily as in grade I. The nipple tends to retract.
  1. Grade III nipple is a severe form in which inversion and retraction are significant. Manually popping out the nipple is difficult.

Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery is performed at The Clinic Sandymount Green under Local Anaesthetic or under Sedation with Local Anaesthetic depending on the extent of inversion Surgery takes 60- 90 minutes . The patient can return home the same day.

During the procedure, an incision is made under the nipple and it is lifted up. A suture is positioned around the nipple and the surgeon physically pulls the nipple out and applies a splint to support it. This suture and split must be kept in place for one week. You must not perform any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 1 week post-surgery.

During your consultation Mr James Small will explain the procedure to you and any potential side effects to enable you to make the correct decision for you regarding Nipple Correction Surgery. This type of surgery may not be the answer to your issue. It is possible that the nipple may re-invert and the surgery might have to be performed again. Breastfeeding may be affected. This is just one of the possible risks that will be explained to you during the consultation.
